This year Renato Tavares will celebrate being on the mats for 50 years. As a child, he began jiu-jitsu on the advice of his family doctor, who believed it could help Renato improve some respiratory issues.
Renato went on to fight with legends of BJJ under Master Carlson Gracie, instruct and fight with American Top Team, and start his own BJJ association that has affiliates worldwide.
