Alex Humen was born and raised in Ukraine and started wrestling at the age of 9, which he says is late for a Ukrainian. Alex continued wresting for ten years before taking a two-year break. While attending college Alex had opportunities to travel to several other countries to continue his studies and he once again began his combat sports training. Alex had tried several martial arts but it wasn't until he got his butt kicked in training by a BJJ purple belt that he discovered his passion. Alex couldn't believe how easily he was handled by his purple belt training partner and that is when he made the decision to dedicate himself to Jiu Jitsu.
